Ahh, Team Fortress 2, where to start...
I bought this game in April 2009 for £14, not actually knowing what I was picking up, all I had seen were a few videos that looked fairly decent. At the time I had a laptop, a very old Dell laptop with integrated graphics. Despite an average of 10-15fps, I played this game for over 600 hours over the course of 9 months, it was so addicting that I could actually bear those framerates.
It wasn't until December that I found out just how awesome TF2 could be, I built my first desktop PC and started up TF2 on it with a perfect framerate. Now to stop rambling and get to the actual review.
Graphics:
I have met so many people that have ignored TF2 because of the lack of "Uber 1337 grafix" but personally I think that the graphics style is incredibly refreshing; it's a great break from all the games that try to look as realistic as possible and unlike those games, I can't see these graphics ever looking outdated. Valve's decision to use this style of graphics was clearly a very smart move, they look great, give the game a massive heap of charm and make the game stand out against all the others.
Characters:
All 9 classes in this game are clearly well thought out and easily distinguishable from each other. Each character has a unique silhouette so that it is easy to tell the characters apart at a distance. Valve did a very good job with the character designs and I would hate for them to ever be replaced.
Community:
It's a multiplayer game so obviously it has to have a good community. Saying the community is perfect would be a lie no matter what game you're talking about but this game seems to have a much lower amount of irritating players. While other games are filled with elitist douchebags, this game seems to have an overall much friendlier community that place fun over all other aspects of the game. A good community is always a plus in an online game.
Gameplay:
No matter how good the graphics or community are, a game needs to actually be fun, who would have thought. Fortunately this game is incredibly fun, so fun that I have clocked up over 750 hours on this game and I still continue to play every day, if only for a short amount of time. A massive amount of weapons, items , maps and gamemodes just help maximize the fun. On top of that, despite being several years old, the game STILL gets frequent free updates that can be anything from bugfixes to brand new weapons, maps and gamemodes to keep people playing the game. With the amount that has been done already it would be a massive shame to ever release a sequel to this game when it is clear that this game could be popular for another several years at the least.
Overall:
I can't really say anything bad about this game, 10/10 doesn't even sum up how much I love it so can we just pretend that it's 11/10? Thanks.
I'll be back later, going to play some more TF2.
