Minecraft is a combination between an RPG and a sandbox game, as strange of a combination as it may seem, it actually proves to be quite fun. The game is based almost entirely around building, if you are not the creative type Minecraft is definitely not the game for you. There is no storyline but the main ideas of the game are to build and to survive.
Gameplay
Your gameplay experience is basically run on your imagination and creativity. It's fun, but only until you're out of ideas. Of course, building isn't the only thing you can do, so when you're tired of building things, you can go out and explore the vast randomly generated world, there are no barriers as the world is infinitely generated, you are only limited by the amount of free hard disk space you have. You are not the only inhabitant of the Minecraft world, there are other creatures living there as well, these creatures are generally referred to as mobs, there are neutral mobs and hostile mobs, these include cows, pigs, chickens, "Creepers", pigmen, "Ghasts" and more, all of these creatures drop materials you will need for survival. Crafting is a very important part of Minecraft, unfortunately, the game does not tell you how to craft essential items you will need if you wish to progress in the game. As the name suggests, you will also need to start mining for essential materials, although you do not need to do this, it is generally recommended to do so as cheating is frowned upon. Mining tends to be very tedious as you play the game more and more and it starts to get frustrating.
Graphics/Tech
Minecraft isn't the best looking game out there today, and it's not meant to be. It feels like an old 80s game but in 3D. The default textures don't appeal much to me, so I've replaced them. It feels too cartoon- like for my tastes, not dark enough. Because of its simple design, Minecraft should be able to run on almost any PC, with a bit of tweaking of course.
Conclusion
Minecraft is a great game if you're one of those creative type of people. It can be fun for a while but eventually, it may become boring due to reasons such as the simple lack of creativity when you run out of ideas, or even the repetitive and tedious task of mining for materials. The graphics style may appeal to some but not others.
Overall, a great game with few but very existant downsides.
